July 5th- Two years with DCC

Post date: Jul 07, 2012 3:44:52 PM

It is hard to believe that two years have passed since the Sue Line Railroad "when live" with DCC. Even harder to believe is that almost no one noted the anniversary, it was just FUN as usual.

The heart (or should it be brain) of the conversion to DCC is the Dispatcher's Panel (above). Being used tonight by Richard Kamm. It was built using the JMRI system for the software and R-R CirKits for the hardware. A great deal of gratitude goes out to the people who made the JMRI software what it is. Thanks also go to Dick Bronson (below with wife Karen) for the fantastic Hardware that R-R CirKits produce as well as for the help and encouragement they have provided.

Of course, theor software and hardware would be of little use if it were not for the control system. The folks at CVP Products have a great system with EasyDCC (below).

The decoders have come from numerous companies including:

Digitrack

NCE

and Soiundtraxx

to name a few.

We are also using the Radio Control System of Ring Engineering:

The most important of part of all is the people who make up the Sue Line Group.Let's see who was here.

THE YARDMASTERS

Mose Crews (above) was the ever resourceful Shreveport Yard Master.

Mose Crews is shown here as Ashby Junction.

Charlie DeVillbiss (above) was enjoying his job as the

Alexandria Yard/NoLaCRA Yard Master.

FIXED POSITION OPERATORS

).

Danny Garland (above) was the Maryville Operator (MOp) is

picking up cars in Lake Hamilton.

Jim Willis (above) took a turn trying out the Shreveport Public Belt.

Jim Willis is shown waiting in Sue City while awaiting work.

Should we tell him he has to turn on his printer?

MAINLINE ENGINEERS

Charles Kneipp (above) normally is doing repairs, but

tonight was switching cars in Sue City for his mainline train.

Lionel Brangham (above) is busy switching cars in North Park.

Rob Robbins (above) is switching cars in Pinecreast.

Ken Ellison (above, file photo) was then engineer for

the northbound extra- our featured train of this session.

Ken Ellison also supplied the photographs for this session.

With college out for the summer,

Matt Tessier (above) was able to join us for the evening.

Joint us tonight also was Todd Tessier (above), brother of Matt Tessier.

He we see Todd Tessier checking his southbound train in Leming.

NORTH BOUND EXTRA BOARD FREIGHT

The yard switchers in Alexandria, on loan from the CSX,

are getting the Northbound Extra Freight ready.

The Northbound Extra Freight has just left Richard.

After moving along the shore of Lake Kathryn,

the Northbound Extra Freight is

Just south of Jeauxville.

Arriving in Jeauxville, the Northbound Extra Freight

is on the mainline.

The Northbound Extra Freight move through downtown Jeauxville.

A local freight is switching the west side of town.

At the north end of Jeauxville, the Northbound Extra Freight

hits the first red board of the evening.

The Northbound Extra Freight passes the North Park switcher

The Northbound Extra Freight flies thru Pinecrest.

As the Northbound Extra Freight heads out of Pinecrest,

a light flashes into view. What could it be?

Thank goodness, it is the southbound local, on the other track.

The Northbound Extra Freight is moving by Crews Siding.

Running in notch 8, the Northbound Extra Freight passes under Black Bridge.

Hardly anyone notices as the Northbound Extra Freight

slows to take the siding in Leming.

The Northbound Extra Freight sits on the siding at Leming.

The Northbound Extra Freight has finally

made it into Shreveport Yard.

Please join us new week, as we start year three of DCC.
